It’s Harvest Homecoming time in New Albany!!!!
For those of you reading that may not be local, let me explain what Harvest Homecoming is. It’s a weeklong festival in downtown New Albany, Indiana that includes craft, vendor and food booths, a beer tent, carnival rides and a kids tent for the littles, contests (My newphew won the cutest baby contest a few years ago!) and MUCH MUCH MORE!
I grew up in Jeffersonville where we had the Steamboat Days festival so when I moved to New Albany, I thought I knew what HH was going to be like… I was WRONG… it was so much bigger (booths cover MULTIPLE blocks) and better than I imagined.
I want to share 2 of my favorites things about Harvest Homecoming…. the PARADE and the FOOD!
The HH parade will be on Saturday October 1st beginning at noon. They start at New Albany, go towards Spring and all the way down Spring towards the river. We have only missed one parade in my son’s 10 years of life (and we were at Magic Kingdom at Disney that year so I think I can forgive myself!)
Bring a chair and a blanket and join New Albany for a great time. We’ve toughed it out in the rain and in the cold… but looks like the warmer weather this year should be perfect! Here are a few memories I found of my kiddo Preston thru the years at the parade!
It was COLD!! It was LOUD!! Yes, that’a a BULL that closed the parade!
One of my other favorite things about Harvest Homecoming is the FOOD… ohhhh the food… from Chicken and Dumplings (Get them from The Redmon club.. a bit off the beaten path but ask someone to help you find it.. you won’t regret it) to Pumpkin Rolls that the Scouts make to walking tacos to the FAMOUS homemade donuts to gyros to apple dumplings to porkchop sandwiches to buttered Corn on the Cob (from the Scouts near the porkchop booth – follow the smoke!)… Is your stomach growling yet?!?!?
This year the booths will be open Thursday October 6th – Sunday October 9th… I’ll probably be there at least one time each day in order to eat all the food on my must have list!
Here’s a picture I found of my Redmon chicken and dumplings (I got extra to take home and warm up later!) Pair it with a sweet team and in my world.. that’s a GOOD dinner right there!!
Yummy Dinner Don’t forget the Pumpkin Roll!!
So mark your calendars and come on down to Harvest Homecoming. You can get all the info you need on booth times activities and more at their website
See you there!!!
